Loss prevention, built into every lane
Always-on AI that detects and intervenes on loss events as they happen, on the checkout hardware you already own.
Recorded in store: a non-scan is detected, the shopper is prompted, the item is recovered.
Shrink is not one problem. It is a dozen small failures repeated thousands of times a day, most of which nobody sees until the stock count. Edgify catches them at the moment they happen, while the shopper is still at the lane.
What it detects
- Non-scans: item enters the bagging area with no corresponding scan
- Barcode switching: a cheaper barcode presented for a more expensive item
- Mislabelling: wrong PLU selected on a self-service scale, deliberately or not
- Items left in trolleys: bottom-of-basket goods never presented
- Sweethearting: suspicious assisted transactions at staffed lanes
How intervention works
Detection without intervention is just reporting. Edgify closes the loop on the device: the shopper sees an on-screen prompt to re-scan, or an attendant is alerted, before the transaction can complete. Most events resolve without human involvement and without accusation.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 01. Scan & Detect | Edgify analyses every checkout interaction in real time, on the terminal. |
| 02. Event Detected | Item placed in the bagging area without being scanned. |
| 03. Intervention | Shopper is prompted on-screen to re-scan; attendant alerted only if needed. |
| 04. Loss Recovered | Item re-scanned, event logged, recovered value attributed to the lane. |
Measuring it

Every intervention is logged with its outcome, so prevented loss is reported as a number rather than asserted as a benefit. In production, Edgify recovers 85%+ of the retailer loss it is deployed against.
Pilot on hardware you already own
A 12-week pilot runs on your existing self-checkouts and lanes. No new terminals, no server room, no rip-and-replace. That is the whole point: the objection to in-store AI has always been capital cost, and there isn't one here.

Frequently asked questions
Which checkout loss events does Edgify detect?
Non-scans, barcode switching (scanning a cheaper item's barcode), mislabelled produce, items left in carts or baskets, and suspicious assisted transactions at staffed lanes.
Does loss prevention work on staffed lanes or only self-checkout?
Both. The same on-device models run across self-checkout lanes and staffed POS lanes, and can either intervene automatically on screen or alert staff.
How is the impact measured?
Every detection and recovery is logged on the device and reported in the Edgify console, so prevented loss is measured per lane, per store and across the estate against an agreed baseline.
